THE CHANNEL OF DISTRIBUTION of your products or services to your customers should be effective enough to ensure that sales are always going up.  Whether the business is fledgling or established, a distribution strategy is important. The strategy that you develop for the distribution of products to your customers should be as efficient as possible.  There are many aspects that are covered in a distribution strategy. The following are tips that can be used to develop a successful distribution strategy.

1.  Keep your business model in mind
The basic factors that you have to consider in developing your strategy include the kind of product or service you deal in, your target market, distribution plans of your competitors, and location of your business, among others.

2.  Think of distribution partners in the marketing strategy
It is important that you consider the partners you might work with in the distribution process of your goods and services so that you can be able to reach your customers more easily.  You can identify such partners by carrying out research.  You can start by considering the kind of people and businesses that your competitors use to distribute their products.  If you are able to pick your distribution partners well, you are likely to overcome several problems that many business people face as they form a distribution strategy.

3.  The key to the strategy is price
The pricing of the products will largely affect the distribution strategy you design.  Similarly, a product that is costly to ship will affect your dealings with the partners in your distribution chain.  Fragile products can lead to an increase in the prices because the breakages will have to be absorbed in the price.  The higher the distribution costs, the higher the prices of your products are likely to be.  Keep in mind, though, that if the price is too high, the customers are unlikely to buy your products.

4.  Carefully consider logistics
Make a list of all the logistics you must consider in distributing your products to your customers.  Factors like the distance from your warehouse to your customers and the type of services you deal in should be considered in the development of the strategy.  You would be wise to think of the factors that are unique to your circumstances.

5.  Get feedback
The strategy should have a person to control it.  It will be of no use if there are no ways for you to get feedback on the strategy that you have put in place.  The feedback system should be able to determine the effectiveness of the program, that the customers get the product or service, and that, most importantly, the quality is not compromised.

The strategy should be very well planned to ensure its strength and the delivery of products to the customers on time.  The strategy will vary from one company to another and its complexity will also be different.  As your business grows, this is the only way that you can keep up the pace with your competitors.  If this area is ignored, you will find that your business will have no market in the future.
